Food and Fashion in Bologna

February 7, 2009

Bologna is a university town with some of the most amazing cuisines you’ll ever feast your palates upon.  They also play host to some of the largest and most important international trade fairs and is considered an automotive centre in the country.

While you might end up in town just in time for one of the large trade shows, food and fashion will still likely end up as your chief indulgences during a visit to Bologna.  At the least, you should grab a plate of salted pork meats like mortadella, fresh handmade pasta (tortellini, taglatielle, tortelloni, lasagna) and special Bolognese sauce.

Once you’ve had your fill of great tasting delicacies, get behind your car hire and hit the shops scattered around the city centre for endless hours of shopping bliss. Ten minutes of walking around and browsing store windows across Galleria Cavour, Via Farini and Via Ugo Bassi should leave fashion enthusiasts beaming with delight.  Cap off a day of shopping and good food at the aperitivo venues between 6:30 and 7:30 in the evening, where you can meet locals young and old alike in their native surroundings.
